"Seeking shelter" at Climate Action Campus:
April Kids Holiday Programme 2024 Monday 15th - Tuesday 16th April 9am-3pm 8-12 yrs Climate Action Campus, 180 Avonside Drive $130 per student *Scholarships available for families that cannot otherwise afford the programme, and local families will be prioritised, please get in touch *We are a member of Te Mātāpuna Mātātahi Children's University, so bring your passport if you have one! During this two day kids holiday programme at the Climate Action Campus, participants (8-12 years) will create performances in our classroom and outdoor environment using mask, puppetry, physical theatre, design, film and music. The performances will be inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ story The Bremen Town Musicians where animals, unwanted and treated badly by their human owners, "seek shelter" together escaping to Bremen to build a better future.
Please contact us directly for more information or to enrol a student in the programme: education@freetheatre.org.nz.
All our programmes undergo Health & Safety planning and our experienced teachers are first-aid qualified.
Previous holiday programme themes have included Upside-down Worlds, Conference of the Birds, Creation Myths, Greek Gods and Heroes, Alice in Wonderland, Odysseus and the Cyclops, Antarctica, Matariki, Time Travel and the Olympic Games. These are unique opportunities to experience and learn from one of New Zealand's leading exponents of contemporary performance. And they're heaps of fun! We also teach performance for Adults and offer Workshops in Schools. See above the short films created by our students during our 2018 Kidsfest Programme. They were inspired by the work of filmmaker Georges Méliès and the Cyclops story in Homer's Odyssey.
